Learn to drive an ambulance - Class LR

If you have recently received your intake approval from the Ambulance Service of NSW, you will have also been notified that you will be required to upgrade your drivers licence to an unrestricted Light Rigid (LR) licence.

ABC Driving School - VanABC Driving School has been conducting these upgrades for candidates of the Ambulance Service of NSW, for several years and will be happy to assist you with a one-on-one course, at the Parramatta, Penrith, Campbelltown, and Central Coast Heavy Vehicle Training Centres.

The course is conducted in one day, over seven and a half hours normally commencing at 08.00am and concluding at 3.30pm, with a compulsory 30-minute lunch break. The vehicle used for the course is a Toyota Commuter minibus.

The cost of this course is $750 (Arndell Park), $820 (Central Coast) and $850 (Parramatta, Penrith or Campbelltown), there are no other additional or hidden charges, we currently have over a 90% pass rate within the scheduled seven and a half hour timeframe, however if you do require any additional lessons, these hours will be charged at $100.00 per hour. Current manual car driving experience is essential to increase your chances of a successful outcome.

Alternatively you can also upgrade your licence to a class MR, this will also satisfy the entry conditions to the Ambulance Service, however you will be required to undergo tuition in a Class MR truck and there may be some additional charges involved. If you do decide to upgrade to a Class MR, tuition can be conducted at our Heavy Vehicle Training Centres at Parramatta, Penrith, Campbelltown, Kogarah Central Coast or Wollongong.
