3-FOR-1 Structured Lesson Scheme

All ABC Driving Schools are pleased to offer the RTA’s 3-for-1 Structured Lessons Scheme (3-for-1 lessons). This allows students (and parents) to reduce the required number of supervised hours of tuition, by using one of our qualified Driving Instructors for some of their tuition.

Each hour taken with an ABC Driving School Instructor counts as three hours of tuition in the learners’ Log book – UP TO A MAXIMUM OF TEN HOURS – making a total of 30 hours of tuition.

For more information please visit the RTA at the following link 3-FOR-1 Structured Lesson Scheme.

A brief outline of conditions and requirements is provided below:

  • 3-for-1 lessons can only be applied for, by an Approved Driving Instructor. All ABC Driving School Instructors are eligible to apply for 3-for-1 lessons on behalf of their students.
  • Students can only apply for a MAXIMUM reduction of 30 hours = 10 hours tuition with an ABC driving school instructor.
  • Students may take 3-for-1 lessons with an instructor at any time during the course of their log-book hours. You may choose to take a block of 10 hours which would then count as 30 in your logbook – or you may choose to periodically take lessons with an ABC Driving Instructor throughout your training, with each hour counting as 3 hours (up to a maximum of 10 hours). You will require an RTA ‘Structured Lesson Record Keeper’ to provide evidence of these lessons.
  • RTA regulations stipulate that only a maximum of ten hours taken with an approved instructor will be valid/applicable in the new 3-for-1 Structured Lesson Scheme. (ie a student will still need to log supervised lessons under a variety of road conditions for 90 hours, PLUS 10 hours with an ABC Driving Instructor before being allowed to present for a test.)
  • 3-for-1 lessons cannot be used for the lesson before the driving test, as students are required to present for their driving test 15 minutes before the test time, thus the lesson did not last for 1 hour.
  • 3-for-1 lessons cannot be applied to night driving. You may however take one hour night driving and add two hours to your normal driving log.
  • 3-for-1 lessons cannot be used for the driving test, as students are required to demonstrate their ability to drive, they are not supposed to be ‘learning to drive’ at this time. Also students will be supervised by an RTA testing officer, NOT a Driving Instructor.
  • The 3-for-1 discount applies to a total of 10 hours in the student’s logbook, irrespective of which Driving Instructor completes the 10 hours. Students cannot complete 10 hours with ABC Driving School, then go to another driving school, complete another 10 hours and then go to another driving school and complete another 10 hours. The RTA Structured Lesson Record Keeper mentioned above ensures that this cannot happen – in this situation the total number of hours recorded in the students Logbook will be 50 hours – (10 x 3 = 30 hours + 10 hours + 10 hours = 50 hours in total).
